What Are Dental Crowns
Dental crowns come in a variety of customizable materials so you can have the look you want. Coverings that adhere to your tooth, crowns restore health and reduce any discomfort you may be feeling.
This procedure can even be used with a dental bridge or dental implants. Your needs may differ from another patient’s. We take the time to understand your goals and your current situation to offer you care that is tailored to your needs.
Types of Dental Crowns
Crowns can be made of porcelain, metal, ceramic, or porcelain fused metal. The type of dental crown that is right for you will be discussed during a consultation. As you tell us what you would like, we can assess the right solution that is going to be long-lasting and effective.
The options for crowns vary and can be customized to your unique needs. The details of these options are:
Metal Dental Crowns
Metal crowns are mostly used for teeth that are not visible. A sturdy and reliable option; metal dental crowns allow us to adhere to them without removing so much of your tooth.
Porcelain Crowns
Known as all-ceramic dental crowns, these are made of porcelain, resin, or ceramic. Porcelain crowns are perfect for the teeth in front of your mouth. They look natural and we can customize the color to blend in with your existing tooth.
These crowns are made in our office and the entire procedure can be completed in one visit.
Fused to Metal
These crowns are the strongest of them all. Although they are more visible than porcelain crowns and not as customizable, they will work very well.
The Procedure
To make the most of your dental crowns we begin by removing some of the natural teeth so that the dental crown will fit. An impression of your teeth will be made and sent to our laboratory to have the perfect matching crown created.
Although we’ve removed some portions of the tooth, and possibly the surrounding areas, we do provide temporary crowns for a natural look before the second stage of the procedure. Dr. Askari in our Ventura office will then secure the new permanent crowns in place.
When you have a broken or chipped tooth it has lost some it’s functional capabilities. Choosing the right dentist, this functionality will be restored. Give us a call and we’ll schedule a consultation.
Always friendly and easy to schedule. Dr. Askari is the most friendly, attentive and by far my favorite dentist! The best is that she also takes kids and gets us all in at the same time. Love Dr. Askari for the entire family!
